Holiday's & Home On The Range

Well, after our return from Hawaii...
Halloween, Thanks Giving, Christmas, and New Years Eve have all come and gone.

Per usual, they all went off without a hitch. Hooray! The holiday season is not exactly my favorite. Not for any other reason, than the fact that it is so commercialized.
The highlight really was, when my mom added two new family members.

This is Whitney and Fluke'. Whitney as you can see is a donkey, and Fluke' (pronounced Fluke-E) is a Fjord. Both were rescues. Whitney came from a Donkey Rescue and Fluke' came from a farm where she was loved, but really needed a home where she had more direct attention.
We haven't had horses since 1995/1996 roughly, and I was the "horse" person in the family, so this was a real treat to me.
Donkey's apparently bond specifically with one person, and Whit chose my stepdad Dave. Which worked out perfectly, since he has always wanted a Donkey.
Fluke' was a sweet girl, but she sort of chose me. But really I believe it was because I was not scared of her. She is a BIG horse, and like any horse... if she knows you are scared of her.. she will take advantage of it.
I have been enjoying my days of grooming and snuggling with Fluke'. Whitney sometimes gets jealous and becomes a bit pushy with attention.

Here we are having a delightful time, mid grooming on a very cold afternoon. Tho it looks nice out, it was about 45 degrees out.
Fluke' gives the best hugs, and I simply can't get enough of them.
Fjords require a LOT of grooming. After each brush out, I thought we had procured a mini horse with the amount of hair was left on the ground.

As you can see here... I am trying to groom Fluke' and Whitney was most certain she was in need of attention.
So when nudging me with her nose didnt work, she decided to throw herself over the top of Fluke' to prevent me from brushing her.
It is hard to say no to that face tho. Just want to give her a big kiss!

Kat, whom was Fluke's previous owner came out to shave her. It is amazing how fancy and pretty she looked. She is such a calm and sweet horse. She stood there, not tied to anything, no halter... as Kat ran electric clippers across her, and I used wipes to clean under her, and tweezers to pull out some nasty ticks.
Unfortunately Whitney was not keen on the noise and action, so we were not able to groom her the same way. Due to her being a jack-ass of sorts, she is stubborn and no one was going to win that battle.
All the same, the girls were looking beautiful as always!
