Tis the season to party, or is it?

I am an event coordinator.

Every single summer in Oregon the parks are alive with events. Weddings are found at every single venue as there is a small pocket of time in Oregon where you can enjoy the great outdoors.

Typically by the end of June the weather starts to look up. This year it rained the greater half of June. So in all fairness I say the by the end of June. July its starting to warm up, and by August its hot! We are fortunate that typically the bulk of September is pretty decent. In some cases insanely hot.

Between June - September nearly every single county fair takes place across the state of Oregon. Beyond that there are several different festivals and weekend long concerts that take place. This is what I call my busy season. The time of the year I have no life outside of work.

I dont think people truly understand all the work that goes into putting an event together. I primarly focus ont he alcohol portion of events and just that small fraction of it consumes a great deal of time. Thre are permits and licensing, scheduling, ordering product, and staffing. Missing one tool, or one person could throw the entire thing off.

Not only am I behind the scenes in putting these bad boys together, I am also on site as a supervisor. In the past, before I went to work in the office, I supervised on site for many events. Between old habits dying hard, and the simple fact that certain accounts would have it no other way. I am stretched to my limits. Averaging 25-35 hours a week in my office or at home working. Then when I get on site, pending the length of the event 30-60 hours between 3-5 days.

So while everyone else is out enjoying all the festivities I am here making sure they are running smoothly for you all. Please dont take this as whining, I most certainly am not. I truly love my job and for that I am blessed. But, please dont think I will make it to your event, birthday, party for no reason at all or even wedding for that matter. The odds are I am either working it or working someone elses. If I am not.. rest assure the small amount of down time I do get. I literally leave town. I go to the central oregon house, or leave the state. In the sad event I cant get out of town, I will be in my pool enjoying a glass of wine where I cant have my phone.

My appologies in the event you are trying to connect with me, and can not. Tis the season for me to be me to be working 40-80 hour weeks!
